Esta canción fue una de mis primeras pasiones. La conocí en 1975, después de ver a Maureen McGovern en la película "Infierno en la Torre". Fue entonces cuando supe que Maureen había grabado antes "The Morning After", el tema de amor de "La aventura del Poseidón", estrenada en diciembre de 1972. La canción fue escrita por Al Kasha y Joel Hirschhorn, los compositores oficiales de la 20th Century Fox. Cuenta la leyenda que los estudios les dieron una noche para componer la canción y que, al finalizar el trabajo, le dieron por título "Why Must There Be a Morning After?".A diferencia de "Infierno en la Torre", Maureen no canta "The Morning After" en la película. Canta Nonnie, el personaje interpretado por la rubia Carol Lynley, a quien muchos incautos -incluido yo- confundieron con Maureen.
